How much edible glitter per drink? The honest answer is that almost nobody measures it — and the drinks that actually look good were not measured either.
Here is what usually happens instead. You tip in what feels like the right amount. For about a minute the glass looks like a snow globe. Then the sparkle drifts down, settles in a dull ring at the bottom, and your guest gets a clear drink with sediment in it.
That is not too much glitter. It is not too little, either. It is a timing problem wearing a dosing problem's clothes.
So here is the number first, because you came for it. Then the three dials that matter more than the number.

How much edible glitter per drink, exactly?
The serving printed on a drink glitter jar is 0.1 grams. That is a pinch between two fingers. It is also a number no home scale can read — most kitchen scales do not wake up below a full gram.
Which is fine, because that number is not really an instruction for one glass. It is a yield figure. It tells you how far a jar stretches.

So one tin is a season of parties, not one night. That is worth knowing before you pour like it is sugar.
For the glass in front of you, the method is visual, not numeric. Level the smallest measuring spoon you own — the tiny ones marked "smidgen" and "drop" go down to a sixty-fourth of a teaspoon, and they exist for exactly this. Sprinkle it on the surface. Swirl. Look. Add more only if the drink is still quiet.

What the drinks rule actually says
That 0.1 gram figure is a serving instruction printed by a seller. Sitting separately from it, in federal law, is a color additive rule — and it pays to read that one correctly, because it is easy to read wrong.
Mica-based pearlescent pigment is listed as a color additive in 21 CFR 73.350, and that listing is narrow: it does not list foods generally. It names specific categories, each with its own ceiling by weight. A color additive listing is also not a product approval — it describes a pigment, not the finished jar it ends up in.
Up to 0.07% by weight is listed for distilled spirits between 18 and 25 percent alcohol by volume; for cordials, liqueurs, flavored alcoholic malt beverages, wine coolers and cocktails; and for non-alcoholic cocktail mixes and mixers.
That mixer clause then excludes eggnog, tonic water, and beverages typically consumed without added alcohol — fruit juices, fruit juice drinks and soft drinks. Still wine and sparkling wine are not named anywhere in that list.
Now notice what that percentage is measured against. It is a share of the drink's weight, not a fixed amount per glass. So the arithmetic moves with the size of the pour.

That is why "0.1 grams" and "0.07 percent" should never be quoted side by side without the weight of the drink attached. They are two different kinds of number, and they only line up at one pour size.

The four dials that decide whether anyone sees it
Dosing is one dial out of four, and it is the least powerful of them. Turn the other three first and the amount almost stops mattering.
Dial one — the dose
A pinch, or a leveled sixty-fourth teaspoon. Double it for a deeper shimmer, which means a richer glass out of the same tin and simply fewer servings in it.
Dial two — the format
Flakes stay visible in liquid, so they belong in the glass. Ultra-fine dust lays down a smooth sheen, which means it belongs on the garnish or the dessert.
Dial three — the timing
Add it last, not first. Shimmer stirred in early has already begun settling by the time the glass reaches a hand, so the reveal lands on nobody.
Dial four — the clarity
Light has to get in and back out. A drink you can see through carries shimmer; an opaque one swallows it, which means the pinch is wasted.
Flakes swim, dust paints
This is the one place people genuinely waste money, and it has nothing to do with quantity. It is buying the wrong jar and then blaming the amount.

In a moving, carbonated drink both formats will play. In a still one, the fine dust drops out first. So: flakes in the glass, dust on the dessert, and you will not buy the wrong jar twice. Timing is the dial nobody turns
Here is the physics, in one line: this is a mineral, not a sugar.
Our product documents describe an almost insoluble, chemically stable powder. It does not dissolve. It disperses — and then, in a still liquid, it slowly settles again. Nothing is wrong with your glitter when it sinks. It is doing what an insoluble mineral does.

Who should skip the glitter entirely
Some drinks are simply not worth the pinch, and saying so costs us nothing — the same jar has other work to do.
Skip it in anything opaque. A cola, a stout, a cream-based build, hot chocolate: you can add all the shimmer you like and nobody will ever see it. You are decorating for no one. Put it on the dessert instead, where the light can reach it.
Skip it if you are batching hours ahead and cannot swirl at service. A pre-poured pitcher will separate, and you will be serving sediment.
And skip it if what you actually want is a metallic finish rather than suspended sparkle. That is a dust job, brushed on, not a glitter job stirred in.

Three questions to ask any glitter supplier
Dosing advice is only as good as the jar it is dosed from. So before you ask how much, ask what. Three questions, and any supplier should be able to answer all three without going quiet:
One: what is the full product specification? Not a marketing bullet — the document, with the ingredients and the particle size on it.
Two: is there a certificate of analysis for this lot? Lot-specific, not a generic sheet, so you know what arrived rather than what usually arrives.
Three: will you state, in writing, which food categories this product is intended for? That is the question that actually settles a drinks question, which means it is the one worth asking first.
