Edible Glitter for Holiday Banquets: Palette, Volume and When to Order

If you run banquets for a hotel, a catering company or a restaurant group, December is not one event. It is a calendar of them. Office parties, a Christmas dinner, a New Year's Eve gala, a dessert reception for a client. Some of those briefs will ask for shimmer, and it is easy to buy edible glitter for holiday banquets one event at a time, in December, from whatever is in stock.

This guide is for the person who would rather buy the season once. It covers the palette a holiday program actually needs, how to size the bar side from covers rather than jars, and when the order should go in.

Plan the season as two color pairs, not twelve shades: gold and silver for every event, red and green for the Christmas ones. Size the bar from your cover count at 0.1 g per welcome cocktail, which is about 150 drinks from a 15 g jar. Size the pastry side by shade. Then place one season order in October or early November, before the category's own December peak.

Why a holiday season is a different order

A single wedding has one palette and one date. A holiday season has several of each, and they all land in the same few weeks. That is also when everyone else is buying.

Amazon's category research puts search interest for edible glitter at its highest in mid-December, with a smaller peak in late October. Our own order data points the same way. In the fourth quarter of 2025, our basket-analyzed orders ran roughly two and a half times the level of the earlier quarters. A banquet team that orders in December is ordering at the busiest moment of the year.

The fix is not a bigger order. It is an earlier, smaller, more exact one, built from two numbers you already have: your palette and your covers.

The holiday palette is two pairs

Banquet teams tend to over-buy color. A season rarely needs twelve shades. It needs two pairs, and our own 2025 order data shows both of them clearly.

Pair What our 2025 order data shows Where it sits on a banquet calendar
Gold and silverthe anchor pair The most common add-on to Silver was Gold in every quarter of 2025, and the reverse held too. Every event, all season. Office parties, client dinners and the New Year's Eve gala all run on it.
Red and greenthe Christmas pair Orders of our Green jumped more than sevenfold into the fourth quarter, and red and green became each other's top add-on. Christmas-themed dinners and receptions in the weeks before the 25th. Put it away after that.

So a holiday program stocks four shades. Gold and silver carry the whole season. Red and green carry December's first three weeks. Anything beyond those four should come from a signed client brief, not from a hunch in the stockroom.

Sizing edible glitter for holiday banquets from covers

The bar side is the easy half, because it counts. Our listings give the serving as 0.1 g per drink. So one welcome cocktail per guest turns a cover count straight into grams, and grams into jars.

Covers (one shimmer cocktail each) Grams at 0.1 g 15 g jars Left over
40a private dining room 4 g one about 11 g, about 110 servings
200an office party 20 g two about 10 g, about 100 servings
300a ballroom dinner 30 g two, exactly nothing spare, so book a third
500a New Year's Eve gala 50 g four about 10 g

At our 15 g jar price of $14.98, that works out at about ten cents of shimmer per cocktail. The 10 g flake jar, at $14.99, holds 100 servings, so it runs about fifteen cents. Choose by the look you want, not by the cents. Luster dust runs 5 to 25 microns and gives a smooth sheen. Flakes run 50 to 500 microns and stay visible as they suspend in the glass.

Add up every event on the calendar and you have the bar order for the season. For scale, 50 jars at 15 g is 750 g, or about 7,500 servings. That is a whole program, not a party.

The ceiling is set by the weight of the glass

One rule shapes the dose. The federal listing for mica-based pearlescent pigments, the base of these products, sets a ceiling of 0.07% by weight of the finished drink. A 0.1 g pinch needs a drink of about 143 g to stay under it. A 150 g cocktail allows about 0.105 g, and a 100 g coupe allows only 0.07 g. So the small glass at a standing reception gets a lighter pinch than the dinner cocktail.

That ceiling belongs to the mica pigment listing. A finished blend can carry other listed color additives, and each one has its own listing and its own permitted uses. Ask any supplier, ours included, for a written statement of the food categories each shade is intended for.

The pastry side is sized by shade

Desserts do not count the same way. How far a gram goes depends on how your team applies it, so we cannot honestly give you a per-plate figure. Book a jar per shade, plus a spare of gold and silver. Then weigh one jar before and after your first event and forecast the rest of the season from that number. Our event dessert guide works through that method in full.

What stays out of the glass

Holiday menus bring drinks the rest of the year does not. The listing is specific here. Cocktails and cocktail mixers are named in its beverage entry, alongside cordials, liqueurs and distilled spirits of 18 to 25 percent alcohol by volume.

That entry expressly excludes eggnog, tonic water, and beverages typically consumed without added alcohol, such as fruit juices and soft drinks. Straight pours of wine or sparkling wine are not among the named categories either. So the shimmer goes in the welcome cocktail and the gala drink built as a cocktail, and the eggnog station stays plain.

Plan the season in pairs, size the bar from covers, and order before the category's own December peak.

When to place the season order

Three dates matter, and only one of them is in December.

When What to settle Why then
Octoberplan Sign off the two pairs. Order one jar of each shade as a sample. Request documents in writing. Paperwork and client sign-off take time, so start them first.
Early Novemberorder Place the season order: covers times 0.1 g for the bar, a jar per shade plus spare anchors for pastry. The order goes in before the December climb in category demand.
Decembertop up Top up gold and silver only, if the calendar grew. Anything ordered now competes with the busiest weeks of the year.

Rotate the stock like any other dated product. Our listings record every active product as expiration-dated, with the date on the package. Oldest jar to the front.

Who should skip this guide

Hosting one holiday party at home? You need one jar, not a program. Start with how much glitter goes in a drink, then how to use it in drinks and which shades people actually buy.

Running a bar program all year? The cost-per-serving guide is the better read. Buying jars to give away rather than to use? The corporate gifting guide is written for that.

What to ask any supplier, including us

A banquet team answers to a venue, a client and a health inspector. Send the same three questions to every supplier on your list, in writing. First, may we have the ingredient declaration for each shade, and the food categories each shade is intended for? Second, may we have the product specification, and not only a safety data sheet? A safety data sheet covers handling a powder at work, not its use on food. Third, what are the lead time and case pack for a season-size order, and where does the date sit on each jar? Our supplier documentation guide sets out the full file.

MONÉGASQUE has fulfilled more than 400,000 orders across the US, Canada and the UK. The four shades in this guide are in our 15 g luster dust line: Gold, Silver, Green and Burgundy, the line's deep red. Ask our team the same three questions.

Two routes from here. For case quantities, the Amazon quantity ladder runs from 5% off at 2 or more units up to 20% off at 50 or more. For a season program, start at our wholesale and bulk enquiry page. Tell us your event dates, your cover counts and your four shades.

Questions banquet buyers ask

How much edible glitter do I need for a holiday banquet?

For the bar, multiply your covers by 0.1 g, the listed serving per drink. A 200-cover party needs 20 g, which is two 15 g jars with about 10 g spare. For desserts, book a jar per shade plus spare gold and silver, then weigh one jar across your first event.

Which colors should a holiday banquet program stock?

Two pairs. Gold and silver are the anchor pair in our 2025 order data, bought together in every quarter, and they carry the whole season. Red and green became each other's top add-on in the fourth quarter, so they carry the Christmas events. Add other shades only for a signed client brief.

When should a hotel order edible glitter for the holidays?

Plan in October and order in early November. Amazon's category research puts search interest at its peak in mid-December, and our own fourth-quarter orders in 2025 ran roughly two and a half times the earlier quarters. In December, top up gold and silver only.

What does edible glitter cost per guest?

About ten cents per welcome cocktail from our 15 g luster dust jar at $14.98, which holds about 150 servings at 0.1 g. The 10 g flake jar, at $14.99 for 100 servings, runs about fifteen cents. Choose by the look you want, then check live prices before you build a budget sheet.

Can we put edible glitter in eggnog at a holiday banquet?

The federal listing for mica-based pearlescent pigments excludes eggnog by name. It also excludes tonic water and drinks typically consumed without added alcohol, such as fruit juices and soft drinks. So we point banquet teams at the welcome cocktails instead, and the eggnog station stays plain.

Do you offer bulk pricing for a hotel's holiday season?

Two routes. The Amazon quantity ladder gives 5% off at 2 or more units, rising to 20% off at 50 or more. For a full season program, use our wholesale and bulk enquiry page and tell us your event dates, cover counts and shades, so the team can quote the season in writing.

The takeaways

  • A holiday season needs two color pairs: gold and silver for every event, red and green for the Christmas ones.
  • Size the bar from covers at 0.1 g per cocktail. A 15 g jar is about 150 drinks, at about ten cents each.
  • The 0.07% ceiling is by weight of the finished drink, so a small coupe gets a lighter pinch.
  • Size the pastry side by shade, then weigh one jar across your first event.
  • Plan in October, order in early November, and top up only the anchors in December.
