Edible Glitter for Subscription Boxes and Kits: Weight, Fit and What to Settle First
If you curate a subscription box, assemble cocktail or cookie kits, build gift baskets, or run a brand collaboration where someone else's jar goes inside your packaging, this guide is for you. Your product is the box. The jar is one item in it.
That changes the questions. A pastry team asks how well a powder dusts a cake. You ask what the jar adds to the parcel, whether it fits the insert, whether it can ship, and whether a stranger who has never used it will get it right. Edible glitter for subscription boxes is a packing decision first and a food decision second.
Settle four things before the box is designed. Weight: our jars ship at 22.5 g (7 g jar), 37.5 g (10 g jar) and 0.15 lb (15 g jar). Fit: the 10 g jar is the flattest, at 1.1 in deep. Shipping: read Section 14 of each shade's safety data sheet. Use: match the format and the recipe card to what the recipient will make, and check the date on every jar.
Why a jar in a box buys on different rules
Your name is on the outside of the box. The person who opens it did not choose the jar, cannot ask you how to use it, and will judge your brand by it.
The category makes that harder. In Amazon's category research, roughly two thirds of ingredient complaints are about missing ingredient information, not about any ingredient itself. An analysis of about 2,400 category reviews adds a sharper theme: buyers reporting that a product turned out not to be edible. Decorative shimmer is sold under the same names as the edible kind. If it goes in your box, your box carries the risk.
So the job is not to find the prettiest jar. It is to find a jar you can pack, ship, explain and document.
What edible glitter for subscription boxes adds to the parcel
Start with weight and footprint, because they set your postage and your insert. The shipping weights below come from our Amazon listings. The jar sizes are the ones our spec sheet lists. Measure a sample in your own insert before you sign off.
| Format | Ships at | Jar size on our spec sheet | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 g luster dustdecorating line | 22.5 g | 2.44 x 1.93 x 1.54 in | Icing and frosting decorating kits |
| 10 g flake glitterdrink line, flat jar | 37.5 g | 2.3 x 2.3 x 1.1 in | Cocktail kits and slim mailer boxes |
| 15 g luster dustdrink line | 0.15 lb | 2.8 x 1.61 x 1.54 in | Bar kits and home-bar boxes |
| 12-jar gift boxtwelve 7 g jars | 0.84 lb | 8.35 x 6.18 x 1.54 in | A gift that is the whole box |
Two things stand out. First, every jar here measures 1.54 in or less on its shortest side, so each one fits a shallow mailer. The 10 g jar is the slimmest, at 1.1 in. Second, the 7 g jar adds less than an ounce to a parcel. That matters when your box sits just under a carrier's weight band and one heavy insert would push it over.
Carriers price light parcels by weight, so weigh your packed box with and without the jar. Do it once, with your real insert and filler.
Three jar shapes beside the twelve-jar box. The flat jars on the right are the 10 g flake format, the slimmest fit for a mailer.
Pick the format by what the recipient will make
The two formats do different jobs, and a kit should only hold the one its card asks for. Luster dust is a fine powder of 5 to 25 microns. It gives a smooth, metallic sheen on icing, frosting and chocolate. Flake glitter runs 50 to 500 microns. Its flakes stay visible and suspend in a clear drink.
So a cookie or cake kit takes the 7 g dust. A cocktail kit takes the 10 g flakes. A home-bar box that wants a soft shimmer through the glass can take the 15 g dust. Our guide to glitter versus luster dust shows the difference side by side.
Your recipe card is your claim
Whatever you print on the card is what your customer will do. So write it to match the federal listing for mica-based pearlescent pigments, the base of these products. That listing sets a ceiling of 1.25% by weight for frostings and confections. For cocktails it sets a ceiling of 0.07% by weight of the finished drink. A 0.1 g pinch needs a drink of about 143 g to stay under it.
The beverage entry is specific. Cocktails, cordials and liqueurs are among the categories it names, along with non-alcoholic cocktail mixes and mixers.
That last clause then excludes eggnog, tonic water, and drinks typically consumed without added alcohol, such as fruit juices and soft drinks. Straight wine and sparkling wine are not among the named categories either. So build the card around the cocktail and its mixer.
That ceiling belongs to the mica pigment listing. A finished blend can carry other listed color additives, and each one has its own listing and its own permitted uses. Ask any supplier, ours included, for a written statement of the food categories each shade is intended for, and print your card from that.
Our listings give the serving as 0.1 g per drink. A 10 g jar holds about 100 servings, and a 15 g jar about 150. If the card says how many drinks the jar makes, use those numbers.
Shipping: the one question the safety data sheet answers
A safety data sheet is about handling a powder at work. It is not evidence that a product is right for food, so it should never be the only document in your file. But it does answer the question your carrier will ask.
Section 14 of the sheet covers transport. The sheets for our Gold luster dust and our Iconic Gold glitter list the product as not classified as dangerous goods for transport by road, rail, sea or air, and not a marine pollutant. Ask for the sheet for every shade you pack, and file Section 14 where your fulfillment team can find it. If your team also needs to read the workplace sections, our production kitchen guide explains them.
Dates, storage and the months between packing and opening
A box is packed weeks before it ships, and opened weeks after it lands. A jar can spend a whole season in transit and in a cupboard. Our listings record every active product as expiration-dated, with the date on the package. So check that date against your full window: assembly, shipping, and a sensible stretch on the recipient's shelf. Our guide to reading the date on the jar covers what it means.
Storage guides for shimmer powders say clumping is almost entirely a moisture problem. Their advice is to keep stock sealed, cool and dry, at roughly 15 to 20 degrees Celsius and under 60 percent humidity, away from steam. For a kit room that means one simple rule: pack in a dry space, and never next to the kitchen.
Ship the jar sealed, as it was packed. The FDA says companies that make edible glitters must put a list of ingredients on the label. A sticker over that label, or a decant into your own vial, leaves your recipient without it.
Your customer never chose the jar. Choose one you can pack, ship, explain and document.
The per-gram table for a box budget
A box budget is set per subscriber, so compare formats per gram and per serving, not on sticker price. Prices were read from our own product pages on 7 October 2026. Check them live before you build a costing sheet.
| Format | Price | Per gram | Per drink at 0.1 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 g luster dustdecorating line | $9.98 | about $1.43 | sized for decorating |
| 10 g flake glitterabout 100 servings | $14.99 | about $1.50 | about 15 cents |
| 15 g luster dustabout 150 servings | $14.98 | about $1.00 | about 10 cents |
| 12-jar gift box84 g in all | $59.99 | about $0.71 | sized for decorating |
Plan ahead of the calendar, too. Amazon's category research puts search interest at its peak in mid-December, with smaller peaks in late October and early February. A holiday or Valentine's box is packed well before then, so the jars should be too.

Who should skip this guide
Sending one jar to a friend? You need a gift idea, not a packing plan. Start with whether edible glitter makes a good gift, then how much goes in a drink.
Buying jars or sets to hand out to clients rather than pack in your own product? The corporate gifting guide is written for that. Putting jars on a store shelf? The retail listing checks are the better read.
What to ask any supplier, including us
Your name is on the box, so hold the file yourself. Send the same five questions to every supplier on your list, in writing.
First, may we have the ingredient declaration for each shade, and the food categories each shade is intended for? Second, may we have the product specification, and not only a safety data sheet? Third, may we have the safety data sheet for each shade, so our carrier can see Section 14? Fourth, where does the date sit on each jar, and how many months will a fresh order carry? Fifth, what are the packed dimensions, the case pack and the lead time for our volume? Our supplier documentation guide sets out the full file.
MONÉGASQUE has fulfilled more than 400,000 orders across the US, Canada and the UK. The formats in this guide are our 7 g luster dust, our 10 g Iconic Gold flake glitter, our 15 g luster dust and the twelve-jar gift box. Ask our team the same five questions.
Two routes from here. For case quantities, the Amazon quantity ladder runs from 5% off at 2 or more units up to 20% off at 50 or more. For a box program or a collaboration, start at our wholesale and bulk enquiry page. Tell us your box size, your subscriber count, your shades and your ship dates.
Questions box and kit buyers ask
How much weight does a jar of edible glitter add to a subscription box?
Our 7 g luster dust jar ships at 22.5 g, which is under an ounce. The 10 g flake jar ships at 37.5 g, and the 15 g luster dust jar at 0.15 lb. Weigh your packed box with and without the jar, using your real insert, before you fix your postage.
Which edible glitter jar fits a slim mailer box?
The 10 g flake jar is the flattest. Our spec sheet lists it at 2.3 x 2.3 x 1.1 in. The 7 g and 15 g luster dust jars measure 1.54 in on their shortest side, so all three fit a shallow mailer. Measure a sample in your own insert before you sign off the design.
Can edible glitter be shipped by mail in a kit?
Read Section 14, transport, of each shade's safety data sheet. The sheets for our Gold luster dust and Iconic Gold glitter list it as not classified as dangerous goods for road, rail, sea or air, and not a marine pollutant. Ask for the sheet for every shade you pack and file it with your carrier notes.
Should a cocktail kit use luster dust or flake glitter?
Flake glitter, in most cases. Flakes run 50 to 500 microns and stay visible as they suspend in a clear drink. Luster dust runs 5 to 25 microns and gives a smooth sheen, which suits cookie and cake kits. Pack only the format your recipe card asks for, so the recipient is never left guessing.
What should a kit's recipe card say about edible glitter?
Give the dose, about 0.1 g per drink, and build the card around a cocktail and its mixer. The federal listing for mica-based pearlescent pigments names cocktails. Its last beverage clause excludes eggnog, tonic water, juices and soft drinks. Ask your supplier for each shade's intended food categories in writing, and print the card from that.
Do you supply edible glitter for subscription boxes in volume?
Two routes. The Amazon quantity ladder gives 5% off at 2 or more units, rising to 20% off at 50 or more. For a box program or a collaboration, use our wholesale and bulk enquiry page and tell us your box size, subscriber count, shades and ship dates, so the team can reply in writing.
