That is the moment most people decide the jar is the problem. It usually is not. Why does drink glitter clump? Because of how it went in — too much powder, too fast, in one spot, onto a drink standing still. Sinking is something else, and not a fault at all.

Both take seconds to fix. What follows is the diagnostic: read what the glass is doing, find the cause, fix it in front of your guest.

Why does drink glitter clump instead of spreading out?

Here is the autopsy on the lily pad. Dry pigment poured in a stream lands as a heap, not a scatter. The flakes on top never touch liquid, because the flakes underneath already took it. Surface tension holds the patch together, and a still drink cannot break it apart.

So the raft is not a chemistry event. It is a heap that never got separated. Three changes stop it: less powder, spread wider, onto liquid already turning.

Four of those five are habits. The fifth is a casting decision.

Sinking is not a defect. It is density.

The shimmer in a drink is mineral pigment. Our own safety documentation puts its density at 2.8 to 3.4 grams per cubic centimeter — three times the density of the water holding it up. Nothing about a pinch of rock suspended in a glass is permanent.

What saves you is the second property: it is almost insoluble in water, so in the glass it does not dissolve. Sugar in a settled drink is gone. Pigment is sitting right there, unchanged, waiting for movement.

How much to use, and why doubling is the wrong fix

Three cases where the sparkle belongs somewhere else.
